Roberts & Hedges 8th Edition RELEASED

September 26, 2025:

Today marks a milestone worth celebrating! We are proud to announce the release of the 8th edition of Roberts & Hedges: Clinical Procedures in Emergency Medicine and Acute Care, now under the leadership of our lead editor, Dr. Diane Birnbaumer. Diane poured countless hours, days, and years into this project—cover to cover—and this edition would not exist without her vision and dedication.

When my dad, Dr. Jim Roberts, passed away, he had hoped to see this edition through. I remember sitting with him as we mapped out the editors and team. Though he didn’t live to see its publication, I know he would be deeply proud of this book and the extraordinary editors and contributors who brought it to life. I feel lucky to have worked alongside them.

A special thank-you goes to Dr. Jessica Mason, my partner in video editing, who helped expand the multimedia content, and to Dr. Chris Colwell for his vital contributions. Many others gave their expertise—residents, attendings, PAs, and NPs—along with dedicated editors including Drs. Sacchetti, Chanmugam, Chudnofsky, DeBlieux, Hanley, Hayoun, Raven, Smith, Coralic, and Tabas. Dr. Christine Butts provided invaluable ultrasound videos and guidance that enriched this edition even further. Forward by my dearest friend in EM, Dr. Rick Bukata.

This is a joyful day. For over 40 years, Jim Roberts educated generations of clinicians and students. His book has been the cornerstone of procedural training in emergency medicine. Beyond his professional legacy, he was a devoted father, and I miss him every day and on every shift.

Thank you to all who contributed to this incredible achievement.... over the many years.... and now.

The 8th edition is now available in print and digital—go grab your copy today! Share with a friend in EM.
